Every industry is a service industry; every life a life of service on some level. The deep truth is whether at work, in our community, or in our home life, we do, in fact, serve somebody. As leaders and managers, we serve our company, our fellow employees and our clients; and to an important, often neglected sense, we serve our community, our society and our world. The depth and quality of this service is directly affected by how we see ourselves as being “in service”. Perception drives performance. When our lives are seen from a “service” perspective, it deepens our understanding of our place and mission in the world. Deep Service explores the idea of servant leadership in your specific industry context. |

Marginalized people, including minorities, those in the LGBTQ community and people in larger bodies, are subjected to high levels of daily stress from discrimination and weight stigma, and this is harmful to health. While working in Senior’s Care, Deborah became a resident’s wife and experienced first-hand the challenges and heartbreak that comes with the territory of having the new identity as a ‘resident’s family member’. From that experience, and having worked for over a decade at Extendicare, she designed a framework to help Senior’s Care organizations build relational cultures so they could create stronger connections and better outcomes with families. In this session, we will focus in on the resident’s dining experience, which is a key area that families pay attention to. When family’s expectations aren’t met, disappointment can lead to time consuming complaints, friction and conflict. Through the RECIPE framework, you will learn practical ways to communicate and relate with families, and build the trust, respect and partnership that creates a pleasant home environment, better resident care, and more time to do the work you love. You will also learn ways to build your own bandwidth and capacity to thrive in our fast paced yet rewarding work environment of Senior’s Care. |
